The current 2015 Subaru WRX is a top choice for anybody in the Crystal Lake and Elgin, IL area that wants a high-performance car with an affordable price tag. The WRX STI is the even more hardcore sports model beloved by rally enthusiasts the world over. Now it looks like Subaru is planning to expand the STI lineup to include other models – the first time in the brand’s history that this has happened.
New STI Models
"The United States is the highest priority for STI," said STI President Yoshio Hirakawa. "We'd like to create a car that drivers can control like their own legs so they can push the car to the limit." We know that drivers here in the Chicagoland area are happy to hear that. The Subaru brand actually won the Kelley Blue Book Best Performance Brand for 2015 on the strength of the 2015 Subaru BRZ, 2015 Subaru WRX, and WRX STI.
That leads us to the big news: we’re expecting an STI version of the Subaru BRZ to arrive sometime in the coming years. Currently the only STI model is the WRX. The BRZ is the obvious choice for the Subaru tuning house. The rear-wheel drive sports coupe is already thrilling to drive and has widely been praised for its handling and performance. In fact, Subaru unveiled the STI Performance Concept recently, and it was based loosely on the BRZ. That concept model was loaded with carbon fiber body work, including a big rear spoiler, and it received STI tuning on the chassis, body, and powertrain.
Under the hood of the STI Performance Concept sat a 2.0L turbocharged Boxer horizontally opposed four-cylinder with an output in the neighborhood of 345 hp. Will that engine power a future STI model? We hope so. In other markets, like its home Japan, Subaru actually already sells STI versions of the Legacy sedan, the Forester Crossover, and the BRZ. So we’re pulling for these high-performance versions of the Subaru models to make it to our showroom here at Brilliance Subaru in Elgin!
