Car Guide keeps bringing the Subaru Outback to the top of the pile in the SUV category, because it keeps providing the best value in the segment. It offers non-stop utility, all-condition and all-terrain capability, the latest safety and connectivity technology, and in the end, it’s a vehicle that's more than easy to live with. The Car Guide uses strict criteria in judging the Best Buys awards. They take into account price, fuel consumption, style, performance, comfort, maintenance cost, reliability, resale value, and daily drivability. After editors make their own individual evaluations based on those criteria they form a consensus to reach a single winner in each category.
For 2016, the Outback received infotainment upgrades, a retuned steering system, and automatic headlight and wiper systems. It is also available with the Subaru EyeSight system – a suite of high-tech preventative safety features, including collision prevention braking, adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning system, and more.

The 2016 Subaru Outback starts at $24,995 MSRP in the most basic trim level. It comes with standard all-wheel drive, unlike many other competitors. It is rated at up to 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway based on EPA estimates, which bests most similarly equipped competitors in this segment.
