When to Replace Your Wheel Bearing

Wheel bearings have the important job of carrying the entire weight of the vehicle. They can last for over 100,000 miles. However, they do eventually wear out. One sign your wheel bearings need to be replaced is if you hear a groaning sound from your wheels. At certain speeds, this sound can go away. The mechanic will be able to assess your wheel bearings by lifting the car and moving the wheel. It's important to keep your wheel bearings in good order. If they are bad, then it can potentially generate a lot of heat. We can also provide preventative maintenance for your wheel bearings.

Signs You Need a New Wheel Bearing

On tires that have bad wheel bearings, these tires will wear faster than the other tires. This can be caused by other tire issues, but do not rule out wheel bearings. Another sign your wheel bearing replacement needs to be worked on is a grinding noise, as noted before. It sounds like two pieces of metals that are grinding together. This noise will come from one wheel. It's most noticeable to hear when you are turning or shifting. A third way to tell if you need to change your wheel bearings is if the steering wheel vibrates. This vibration is noticeable at slower speeds and can get worse as the car accelerates.

If your vehicle pulls to one side when you're driving it, this can mean that you need to work on the wheel bearings of your car. This can be because the wheel bearing is pitted or corroded. The smooth lining will go away, and the rough surface can cause the tire to vibrate. It will make the vehicle pull to one side or another. This can be seen while you are driving and also when you are applying the brakes. Finally, if your car's wheels have excessive wobble or "play" to them, it can be due to the wheel bearings. If it wobbles or moves back and forth, it can be caused by bad wheel bearings.
